The story reported that small amounts of a chemical hormone found in clear plastic polycarbonate baby bottles seeped into infant formula when the formula was heated at high temperatures. The Food and Drug Administration and Juvenile Product Manufacturer's Association say that polycarbonate bottles are entirely safe, but Consumer Reports advised parents to stop using the clear plastic bottles in favor of either glass bottles, opaque polyethylene plastic bottles, or bottles with disposable plastic liners. A report published online during the beginning of August, 2007, by the journal Reproductive Toxicology, warned that a chemical used to make a wide variety of plastic goods, including most baby bottles, may not be safe. It's called bisphenol-A, or BPA. "Very low doses [of BPA] — below the amounts that are present in humans — when, particularly, exposure occurs in fetuses and newborns, you end up with those babies eventually developing prostate cancer, breast cancer. They become hyperactive. They show learning impairment. It's a poster chemical for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder." Frequently Asked Questions Do your bottles have any paint/writing on them? NO! They do not. These bottles are 100% glass with no paint on them whatsoever. Without writing on your bottles how can I tell how many ounces I am putting in? My bottles have raised lettering in the glass itself that reads off ounce increments. Do your bottles include and nipple, ring or cap? NO they do not. This auction is for the glass bottles itself. No accessories are included. Do you have any bottles in a 4 ounce size? NO I am sorry I only sell Evenflo glass bottles in the 8 ounce size. What kind of nipples and rings should I use for your bottles? ANY standard size nipple, ring and cap will fit on my bottles. This bottle will work with a standard size nipple and ring from Evenflo, Gerber, Avent, Playtex and many more brands. The only nipples and rings that will not work are the wide mouth type. Where were your bottles manufactured? How do you know? My bottles were made in the USA. You cannot buy these bottles in stores today. The current Evenflo bottles are manufactured in Mexico. My bottles were manufactured in the USA before Evenflo decided to go with a more cost effective way of making them. I know my bottles were made in the USA because they have raised lettering (again, with no paint) on the bottom of the bottles. Do your bottles contain lead? NO. Most glass baby bottles do not contain lead. Leaded glass is also known as crystal. These are just made of simple, thick, strong glass.
