Maximum weight is 35 pounds plus 16 ounces.In my opinion this is the best scale to use for ebay if you sell items under 36 pounds, here is why.Speed! Time is money right?1. No need to wait for it to zero out before turning on. Just leave it balanced and it is ready to go. 2. It is easier meet a desired weight when removing packing. You just set the balances at the weight you want and remove packing until the pointer moves. (try that with a digital)3. No need to replace batteries. Enough said.4. No need to look for a wall plug for power when moving.Also if you use it for animals or babies I can see how it would be easier. You can do it in "steps" and work to an accurate measurement when the baby or animal keeps crawling off of the scale. This may be harder than digital.I have found it to be accurate with the post office scale.The tray can be removed to reveal a flat metal platform (see pictures). There is a small weight in the back which can be moved to compensate for the trays absence. Aside from some plastic trim pieces everything is metal. In both instances, the setting weight balances in the middle so there is enough play to compensate for minor changes. It does break down into a smaller shipping size. This would not work well in a doctors office, (in the US anyway) the tray is too blemished. The tray has a crack in the border on the left side and it has been repainted by hand.
