Blow-Outs:   When your little one exceeds the diaper - either by volume or forceful explosion, the cover should be your insurance policy.  These covers do a very nice job at this - only allowing the rare blowout from a very large and forceful bowel movement.    Waterproofing:   Before beginning this little adventure, I thought the only kind of covers out there were the all-plastic, crinkly, slip over the legs covers from my childhood.  Wow - clever mothers have certainly changed all of that!  These covers feel more like fabric than plastic.   They are water-resistant to hold moisture in initially - and then actually absorb some of the wetness if the diaper is exceeded.     Fastenings:   This cover is very adjustable.  It has Aplix closures (velcro tabs) with an innovative overlap design that ensures a custom fit on your baby.  Simply lay the cover under your baby's bottom, and fasten it around them just like you would a disposable diaper  (no wrestling over the legs like a pair of underwear).   Edge Finish:  A durable, heavy-duty elastic around legs and tummy will not wear out with repeated industrial washes - and the soft, smooth polyester knit bindings provide a comfortable, stretchy fit, and a leakproof seal.    Durability:  I have been using the same covers on all of my babies - and they have lasted well!  After 3 babies, these covers are still in good enough condition to last through the next one!   Easy Care:  Just throw them in the same loads as your diapers.  I use a warm wash with a long aggition and double rinse, and dry on high heat.  It is best to avoid fabric softeners, bleach, or whitening agents for both covers and diapers.   Economy:  I like to use these covers with prefold diapers, such as what I sell in my other auctions.  It is simply the most economical way to cloth diaper that I have found!   Size and Color Details:    Super Whisper Wrap Covers come in 4 sizes: NEWBORN: 3-5 kg (7-10 lbs)            I recommend having 2-3 of these, and hand-rinsing them.  These are the size you'll grow out of the fastest, and the size that gets the least amount of wear and tear (tiny ones don't move around much). SMALL: 4-7 kg (8.5-15 lbs) I like to have 4-6 of this size.  Depending on how your baby grows, you might be through by the 3rd or 4th month - or they could last you until 6 months easily. MEDIUM: 7-14 kg (15-30 lbs) For beefy babies, like my Vincent (he'll be my couch-mover), I began using this around 4 months.  This is a wonderful size that lasts for quite a while, so you'll want 4-6 of these as well. LARGE: 14-18 kg (30-40 lbs) Due to the flexibility of the fasteners, you can actually skip the medium size and begin using this on a large 4 month old.  This is also the "money size" - the one size that gets used harder and longer than any of the others.  As fast as your baby has grown up until now, you're programmed to think that they'll outgrow this size in a few months as well - but this is actually the size that will fit them until they are toilet trained (which can take until 3-4 years of age with some boys...).  I recommend 6-8 of these covers be in your washing rotation. Prints are very fun - and if you might someday have more than one child in cloth diapers, it makes sorting the laundry so much easier if each size cover is in a different color or print!  Not to mention, the printed covers are very cute and fun - and with as many messy bottoms as we get to look at, we mothers should get some pleasure in the fabrics we use!  Your choices are: Jungle Froggy Pond Stars and Baby Andy Pandy (very limited, going out of stock) Flowers        ---------------------------------------------------------------------     General Diapering Information for the Novice:   First Washing: Prefold diapers will arrive in new (stiff and flat) condition.  They will need 3 washing in hot water (with a drying on high heat between each washing) before they are ready for baby.  This is standard for ordering new diapers.    Dealing with Messy Diapers: This was my greatest trepidation when I first considered cloth diapers.  How smelly and messy would it be?  Thankfully, it's not bad at all!   Liquid waste is easy, and needs no pre-treatment before washing.  I've simply set up the changing table and a diaper bin (standard open trash bin that uses plastic grocery bags) in the bathroom - although one could easily do it in the nursery as well.  Wet diapers go straight into the bin.   Solid waste is also easy.  For the first 6 months, it's a loose yellow curd that can go straight into the bin (and washer) with no rinsing necessary.  After that, when the baby is on solid foods and is producing more potent waste, simply shake off the waste into the toilet and/or rinse the diaper before putting it in the bin.  I also have a simple shower-head attachment that I purchased from a diapering site that attaches to the toilet.  It allows me to rinse the tough messes off.   Hint:  As long as you're washing diapers, why buy disposable wipes?  Cloth wipes (small wash cloths) go right into the diaper pail with the diapers, and save you lots of money!  Just keep a stash of them near the sink - or have a little soaking pot for wet wipes on the changing table. Washing Is the washing a burden?  No - running to the store & hauling trash bugs me more.  I've had 2 babies in cloth diapers for the past 24 months, and even that isn't much of a fuss.  When one of my grocery bags (in the diaper bin) fills up, I simply knot it shut and toss it into the laundry room.  I generally wash two full bags at the time, using gentle laundry detergent, warm water, a long aggitation, and a second rinse. Drying On a nice windy day, I like to hang the diapers up on the line to dry.  The sun naturally bleaches away any yellow curd stains, and the wind whips the diapers up nice and soft.  If the diapers dry on the line on a still day, they will be stiff and need a brief tumble in the dryer to soften them up.  If using the dryer for the whole thing, put the temperature on high and let a two-bag load run for about 80 minutes. Fastening & Waterproofing There are a variety of accessories that work well with prefold diapers.  My favorite fasteners are Snappis - clever, stretching claws tabs that grab and hold the diaper in 3 places - but can't prick the baby.  They typically sell for $2.50 each, and last for 6 months - available at any diapering site.  You could also use traditional diaper pins. My favorite water-proofing cover is the Bummis Super Whisper Wrap.  They are shaped to fit baby, and velcro closed just like a disposable diaper.   And that's that!  I find it much easier to run to the washer than the store - and the financial savings (over disposables) is staggering - about $1400 for the first baby and $1700 for the second!   How many diapers do I need?  If you do a load every other day, you can get by with 2 dozen per baby.  I like having 4-6 dozen around, though, so I have don't absolutely have to get to the laundry on time!    Please feel free to call or email me with additional questions!       God Bless!
