Description
This beautiful antique wicker carriage came from a 23 room Victorian mansion overlooking the Hudson River south of Albany, New York. It has been used and shows normal signs of aging but I do not believe that any restoration work has ever been done to it. The green velvet material appears original as does the lace on the large ornate parasol. There are no original Heywood Wakefield markings on the carriage except for a metal tag on the front saying THE HEYWOOD. I have researched this carriage to the best of my ability and feel that it is an original Heywood Wakefield built in the early 1800s. The wicker design is similar to those seen on other era pieces by Heywood Wakefield. The wicker finials and balls are similar. The parasol brace is identical to others seen. The square axels are traditional Heywood Wakefield as is the parking brake system and spring suspension. This particular carriage has metal wheels with rubber on the exterior of the wheels. The rubber on one of the rear wheels is intact but is missing on both front wheels and the opposite rear. I will attempt to take any additional pictures that you might like and forward them on to you immediately. The carriage is presently on the eastern shore of Maryland and I will gladly make it available for anyone to inspect in my home or I will bring it to the Baltimore Washington International Airport outside of Baltimore, MD if anyone would desire to fly in to inspect it before making an offer. The only break in the wicker that I can see is one piece approximately 1" long on the right side. I have made no attempt to repair it but it would appear to be easily done as the natural color of the wicker in this area is very good. The front of the carriage shows a small scuff mark on the top rail as shown in the picture. The lace parasol is quite tattered as would be expected for a piece its age but the original design is very easy to see. I have enjoyed having this beautiful carriage in my daughter's nursery for many years but it is now seriously for sale. I have put what I consider to be a conservative price on this antique wicker carriage. I will assist in any way possible to work with a buyer in the correct professional crating and shipping of this item at cost to the purchaser. There is a professional van driver in town that might be available to deliver it to you on a cost per mile basis. Please contact me with any questions that you might have and I will respond immediately. My phone number is 410-745-2743.
